Player Profiles
Peter Berry
Full Name: Peter John Berry
Nickname: None (that I know of)
Born: 19 October 1936, Sutton Benger, Wilts, England
Batting Style: Right Hand Bat
Bowling Style: Right Arm Slow
Location: Lamma Island
Occupation: Semi-retired construction surveyor
Interests (outside cricket): Living (well) and travelling around to meet others to do much the same elsewhere, when not found in the Island Bar. I also (occasionally) dabble in local politics.
Previous Cricketing Experience:
Played club cricket in the UK (Berkshire/Oxfordshire area) until mid-1960. Turned out for Sabina Park (Kingston, Jamaica) 3rd team 1960/62. Then for the HKCC “Nomads” for 24 years (from Sept 1963) plus some “guesting” for other teams in HK. Toured with HKCC teams Malaysia/Singapore/Australia and Corfu as player/umpire.
Reason(s) for joining Lamma CC: Living on Lamma
Best and/or worst cricketing memories: Best: winning the Saturday League Cup by one run on the opposition running one short. Seeing “The Invincibles” at Taunton in 1948. Worst: not seeing Bradman bat then (he played golf). Personal disasters too many to include, but one that nobody on the field picked up was loosing count on the fall of a wicket in the last over when umpiring a two-day shield match at HKCC against “the old enemy” KCC thereby allowing them to get the last couple of runs for a win.
Favourite current international player: Shane Warne....I'm only jealous!!
