Review of the Season

  • Saturday League — Strong contenders but ended joint third in a very tight finish.
  • Saturday Cup — Semi-finalists in the Cup.
  • Shanghai Sixes — Plate winners. Alex G will have a special prize named after him after his performance in the final.
  • HK International Cricket Festival — Bowl winners.
  • HKU Sixes — Semi-finalists.
  • HKU Tri-Tournament — Runners-up.
  • Phuket Invitational Sixes — Plate winners.
  • Chiang Mai Sixes — Quarter-finalists. The only team to beat the eventual winners.
  • Summer Eights — Competitive, did well with a small squad albeit with one illegal.
  • Shanghai tourists — Good weekend also involving Subcont & HKU. A good result.

Financial Position
Balance of accounts show we have $8,450 in the bank.
The balance is a lot less than last year due to the factors outlined in “Costs”

Sponsorship
It is expected but not yet confirmed re sponsorship from the Island Bar. OME & Alex Fraser Limited is not expected to continue their sponsorship. HK Electric continues to make their annual donation. Each member will receive a sponsorship agreement for each member to try and help the club with sponsorship.

Costs
Team registration ($2,625), Ground fees ($8,500), 2 dozen balls ($3,600).
Competition fees range from around $4,700 (Shanghai) – $7,600 (Chiang Mai) of which the Club pays for 50% of the fee.
Equipment of around $4,000 annually.
Clothing was around $14,000.
Players’ fees had been subsidised as we had a lot of money in the bank and we agreed to see that the wealth was returned to the members when and where possible.

Membership Drive
New league players required as two have left and short of a wicket keeper (Leigh & Chris have gone, Craig is unavailable for many matches). Also Derek is not available every week! We have recruited Tauseef through Lama while ex-Lamma player Shabbir has informed us he wants to come back and will do if he can get permission from his current captain.

Clothing & Equipment
Purchased new kit bag, two pairs of r/h batting gloves, wicket-keeping gloves, umpire counter, grips.
Will buy two cricket bats.
New Baggy Green caps are to be produced. Shirts will not be.
As mentioned in the Costs, we spend annually around 4,000 on kit. Unfortunately a major part of the money spent is kit replacement because of loss and not through wear-and-tear. A general request is made to look after the equipment we have invested in. One member has lost a bat and is to replace before start of season.

Membership & Match Fees
Club League Membership fee $350. League match fee $150
Club Social Membership fee $250. Social match fee $120
The only change is to the league match fee that has had to revert to the previous charge to cover the downturn in the Club’s bank balance.
Brand new members will be given a shirt & trousers, renewing members will have to purchase one if required.

Club Organisation
ECM’s have been few this season due to the steady and general smooth running of the Club. Ideally we would like to see more feedback from members on what they would like to see.

Lamma CC Women’s Team
An independent women’s cricket team led by Kim Leung expressed a wish to go under the name of Lamma Cricket Club and this was unanimously accepted. The ladies team would however remain completely independent from the men’s team though will have our support.

Net Practice
KCC has now confirmed Friday evenings 6:30–8:30pm and Thursday lunch times 12:00nn–2:00pm. The KCC is getting tighter on who uses the nets and usage is for Lamma CC members only. Lamma CC will have to supply a list of members to the KCC desk for their checking.
It is hard to find a different day or venue bearing in mind net availability and charges.
Any problems with nets at the KCC, call Brad on 9422 5097.

Competitions
We’re up for anything and everything. The usual suspects are HKCC Sixes, Shanghai Sixes, Hong Kong Sixes, Phuket Sixes, Chiang Mai Sixes, HKU Sixes, HKU Tri-Tournament & the Summer Eights.

Social Events
Jonno kindly accepted the challenge to organize the occasional Club social get-together and fund-raising event. Socials to look forward to are bbq’s, junk trips, race nights and pool competitions.

Voting of Executive
Nominations for positions follow and all were voted in un-opposed:

League CaptainToby White
Vice CaptainMark Burns
Social CaptainIan Harling
SecretaryIan Harling
TreasurerVenkat Shivkumar
ChairmanBrad Tarr
ManagerCraig Francis

Sub-committee:
Sponsorship ManagerClive Brooke-Fox
Social Events ManagerJonno Seifman

Future Tours
Bangladesh — Ian.
If there is enough interest Ian has a good cricketing contact to arrange a very interesting tour.
England during the Ashes — Brad.
Raised eyebrows. Not cheap but would be very popular with an Ashes match to see and a cricket match or two.

Dinner & Dance
There was no D&D this year due to unavailability of dates and venues. This was another contributing factor to the Club funds being low. It is hoped to organize a D&D this year and will be led by Brad with support from a number of other members.

Any Other Business
There was very good news in the AOB with Clive Brooke-Fox volunteering to look after a number of issues:
Clive will produce a web site for the Club that will greatly enhance our communications and sponsorship dealings. The Club already has the elements so we should be seeing our very own web site soon.
Clive has a number of ideas on getting sponsorship, and coupled with our own “cricket ground”, we hope to be getting some big deals in the near future.

There were no further points raised and the meeting drew to a close at 1:30pm
